Riportiamo il saluto del sindaco Roberto Battaglini alla comunità irlandese

 

Cari amici dopo la cerimonia del 17 febbraio 2001 a Pozzoleone, oggi si completa quel percorso iniziato con l’incontro tra me e Flan un giorno di dicembre 1999 a Bilbao. Da allora numerosi cittadini dei due comuni hanno potuto incontrarsi, conoscersi, visitare luoghi nuovi, ma soprattutto constatare di avere un’idea simile di fare comunità pur con le difficoltà legate, per ora, al parlare abitualmente lingue diverse. E’ positivo sapere che vi è un diffuso impegno ad apprendere la reciproca lingua per poter ancor meglio comunicare. Queste cerimonie sono importanti, soprattutto nelle piccole comunità, perché danno solennità alle idee e richiamano l’attenzione dei singoli sui valori di amicizia e pace che devono caratterizzare i rapporti tra coloro che risiedono in luoghi oramai solo apparentemente lontani. Chi vive nei piccoli paesi coltiva il valore della tranquillità, del conoscersi a uno a uno dei suoi abitanti, e ora, nel nostro caso, possiamo essere positivo esempio per altre comunità desiderose di aprirsi e confrontarsi per ben valutare anche la propria capacità di progredire e dare un futuro migliore alle giovani e future generazioni. Il gemellaggio, secondo l’esperienza dei comuni d’Europa, permette di superare l’atteggiamento che diffida e rifiuta per approdare alla cultura della fiducia e dell’ascolto in un continuo gioco di dare e avere, fonte di mutuo arricchimento e d’assunzione di responsabilità verso se stessi e gli altri. Tutto ciò per noi si concretizza in occasioni per visitare luoghi nuovi, per conoscere persone, per assistere allo sviluppo di attività economiche in ambienti naturali non ancora sviliti da un eccessivo utilizzo. All’inizio di quest’anno e stato introdotto l’€uro che ci da un linguaggio comune nelle transazioni economiche, ma ancor più è segno concreto che l’Europa deve esprimere un desiderio di unione nel rispetto delle proprie originali peculiarità. Non possiamo certo dirci più uniti per la maggior facilità di scambio nelle contrattazioni commerciali; siamo sinceramente più uniti perché, prima voi, cari amici di Ennistymon, ed ora noi di Pozzoleone abbiamo voluto, con queste due cerimonie, posare un seme per far germogliare duraturi rapporti di amicizia fra i due comuni. E gli stessi simboli a ricordo ne sono piena testimonianza. Così l’iniziale coppa di vetro trasparente si è integrata con un vassoio che contiene i due simboli definitivamente uniti. Ed è con tale auspicio che invito Voi tutti, i Vostri amici e conoscenti, a Pozzoleone, perché il comune da Voi oggi qui rappresentato diventi un approdo sicuro per il Vostro, come per il nostro, desiderio di vivere nel dialogo come comunità aperta. Grazie a quanti hanno creduto a questo instaurato rapporto e a coloro che vorranno essere attivi e partecipi per il futuro.

Dear friends after the twinning ceremony held in Pozzoleone  on february 17th 2001, today we complete the journey which began with my meeting with Flan Garvey one day of december 1999 in Bilbao. Since then many people of our communities had the possibility to meet each other, to visit new places, and above all to find out that they share the same will to build up a community even if there are some problems mainly caused by the different languages we speak. At this regards, it is very good to know that there is a great effort to learn each other’s language to improve communication between us. These official ceremonies are important mostly for small communities, because they give a sense of solemnity to ideas and draw the attention of each single person to the values of friendship and peace which should mark the relationship between people living in places which are nowadays only in appearance faraway. Those who live  in small towns still feels the value of serenity and of knowing each single person of the community. Now, we can be a positive example for other communities who wish to open out and meet different ways of living in order to evaluate their own power to progress and give the younger generations a better future. The twinning, according to the experience of the European municipalities, permits to overcome the attitude of suspicion and rejection in order  to reach the culture of trust and dialogue; in a process of giving and receiving which gives mutual enrichment and assumption of responsibility towards oneselves and the others. For us, this ideal becomes reality through the opportunity to visit new countries, to meet people and to see the development of economic activities in natural surroundings which are not yet spoiled by inordinate exploitation. The introduction of Euro at the begining of this year not only gives a common language in business, but it’s a true sign that Europe has a  dream of unity though respecting the originality of each people. Certainly, we cannot say we are more united because thanks to the Euro business is easier; but we can state that we are more united because firstly you, dear friends from Ennistymon, and now we from Pozzoleone, with these two ceremonies want to sow the seed of durable relationship and friendship between our two communities. Also the gifts we use to remember these events are effective testimony of our meaning.The bowl of transparent glass of the first twinning ceremony in Italy has been integrated by the ceramic tray we are offering today, which shows the symbols of our two communities finally joined together. And it is with this kind of hope that I invite all of you, your friends and acquaintance, to come to Pozzoleone. In this way the municipality we represent today can be a safe destination for your desire to live in an effort of dialogue being a welcoming community. I want to say thanks to all the people who have  believed in this relationship and to those who will be active protagonists in the future of this project.

  

  GEMELLAGGIO CON ENNISTYMON  - ATTO SECONDO -

Nella mattinata del 2 maggio 2002 una delegazione di circa 20 persone con a capo il sindaco Roberto Battaglini è partita per raggiungere Ennistymon e li sottoscrivere il 4 maggio il documento ufficiale di gemellaggio in analogia con quanto avvenuto a Pozzoleone il 17 febbraio 2001.

La delegazione di Pozzoleone è stata ospitata nelle case degli amici irlandesi Riportiamo di seguito il saluto del sindaco Roberto Battaglini alla comunità di Ennistymon
